Subterranean termites The swarmers (pictured in the middle) are usually seen in the spring or early summer. They may appear suddenly in your home by the hundreds, on a warm, humid day. This usually causes panic in the household, however, the swarmers are harmless to you. Termite swarmers are easily confused with swarming ants. However, the differences are clear. Ant wings are transparent and are just as long as the body. Termite swarmer wings are translucent and are about 50% LONGER than their body. The mud tubes (pictured on the left) are the highways they build to travel from their homes, deep in the earth, to our homes. These are often found by the homeowner in garages, around bathroom baseboards, and in kitchens. The worker termite (pictured on the right), unlike the swarmer, is the hidden termite. These are the guys that cause all the damage. They travel up into our homes and forage for food to feed their colony. Their colonies can be thousands strong. Subterranean termites can do damage relatively quickly, as compared to the drywood termite pictured below. However, eradication of the subterranean termites is usually easier and less expensive than treatment of the drywood termite. At Partners Pest Control Inc. we use a termiticide that we believe is the best product on the market for the treatment of subterranean termites. It is important while you compare treatments and prices for those treatments that you ask about the product used. We believe TERMIDOR gets results that cannot compare to other products.
